In this article we will explore some of the perceived benefits of augmented reality. As we continue to watch this technology evolve at breakneck speed, I think its important to stop and survey the vast potential use cases and applications of AR as we go into the future. Such that, perhaps, we can all get inspired and start building some of these solutions that are needed in several different industries that I will highlight below.

Benefits of Augmented Reality by outcomes

  • Improved learning: AR can be used to improve learning by providing a more immersive and interactive experience. For example, AR can be used to teach students about anatomy by overlaying virtual models of the human body on real-world objects.
  • Increased productivity: AR can be used to increase productivity by providing workers with information and instructions in real time. For example, AR can be used to help mechanics troubleshoot car problems or to help surgeons perform surgery.
  • Enhanced customer experience: AR can be used to enhance the customer experience by providing them with a more interactive and engaging way to interact with products and services. For example, AR can be used to let customers try on clothes virtually or to let them see how a product will look in their home.
  • Improved safety: AR can be used to improve safety by providing workers with information and instructions that can help them avoid hazards. For example, AR can be used to help construction workers avoid falling objects or to help pilots avoid collisions.
  • Increased sales: AR can be used to increase sales by providing customers with a more immersive and engaging way to learn about products and services. For example, AR can be used to let customers see how a product will work in their home or to let them try on clothes virtually.

Benefits of Augmented Reality by Industry

Taken a step further, we can see that these benefits of augmented reality also translate nicely over to a variety of industries:

  • Gaming: AR is being used in gaming to create more immersive and engaging experiences. For example, AR games can let players battle virtual enemies in the real world or explore virtual worlds.
  • Education: AR is being used in education to provide students with a more interactive and engaging learning experience. For example, AR can be used to let students see how the human body works or to let them explore historical sites.
  • Training: AR is being used in training to provide workers with more realistic and interactive training experiences. For example, AR can be used to let workers practice repairing machinery or to let them practice performing surgery.
  • Manufacturing: AR is being used in manufacturing to improve productivity and quality. For example, AR can be used to let workers see instructions for assembling products or to let them see how products will fit together.
  • Retail: AR is being used in retail to improve the customer experience. For example, AR can be used to let customers see how products will look in their home or to let them try on clothes virtually. A great example of this is Shopify.

In Closing

Augmented Reality is a powerful technology with a wide range of potential benefits. AR has the potential to:

  • Improve communication and collaboration
  • Reduce costs
  • Increase creativity
  • Enhance social interaction
  • Improve decision-making
  • Promote innovation

The future of AR is very bright. As the technology continues to develop, we can expect to see even more ways to use AR to improve our lives. To be frank, I am very excited about this and can’t wait. As I continue to immerse myself in the field and learn about it, I can’t help but feel like we’re living in a science fiction movie.
